Police closed Kingston Street completely to traffic in the wake of the tragic events. The blockade was then extended to Paisley Road, which was closed to traffic on Seaward Street.

A police spokesman for Scotland said: “This morning at around 11 am, a 68-year-old man fell ill on Tradeston Street in Glasgow. An ambulance was present, but unfortunately the man was pronounced dead a short time later.

“The death will not be treated as a suspect and a report will be sent to the prosecutor”

Correction: We previously reported that the man died after feeling unwell in George Square. The Scottish Police have since confirmed that this original information was incorrect and have issued a new statement above.
